ABOUT US

Sigma Beta Phi Sorority Inc. (ΣBΦ) is the first predominantly Black, bilingual sorority founded in Ontario. Currently, it is a local  sorority (female Greek lettered organization) in Ottawa with a graduate chapter, Sigma Alpha Alpha (ΣAA) and an undergraduate chapter, Beta Alpha (BA) at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University.

The primary goal of the sorority is to promote female empowerment and successes both individually and collectively.

Sigma Beta Phi was formed to help young women who share similar passions and interests to unite their individual strengths, to recognize and to accept their uniqueness in order to discover their full potential that lies inside each of young women. We are a sorority that promotes solidarity among its sisters with the purpose of establishing a climate of trust; in other words, we seek to offer support in any aspect of our member’s life.

We demonstrate female empowerment and success on our campus, as well as in our communities, through our three pillars:

 High academic achievement

Volunteerism

Sisterhood

Our founding principles are:

Solidarity

Loyalty

Responsibility

Support

Community Service

Throughout the past five years, Sigma Beta Phi has organized and participated in many fundraisers for various causes, both locally and internationally.

Step Dance is a unique trait of Sigma Beta Phi, that distinguishes us from other sororities in Ottawa.
